GUATEMALA

A journey into the land of the Maya People, part I.

I’ve planned the first journey to Central America because of the Mayan Sites. Their civilization reached from the Yucatan Peninsula to Guatemala, Belize, north of Honduras and El Salvador. This is the reason why I started my trip in Guatemala and continued to Belize.

  • The journey took 9 days and 1,000 kilometres.

I went to lake Atitlan and to a small town of Panajachel after a short visit of Guatemala City. I then visited the former capital city of Central America, colonial Antigua and took a trip to an active volcano Pacaya. I stayed in an unbelievable Utopia in Semuc Champey after a 10 hour drive. I made a trip around this place, swam through the cave Grutas Las Marias with a candle in my hand and went water tubing down the river. After another long transfer to the town of Flores in the north of the country I visited the renowned Mayan site Tikal and then continued my journey to Belize.
