6 700 Indian kilometers

I was thinking about visiting India for many years. I decided during Christmas 2013 and started to plan my journey. Because I wanted to visit a number of states on a route that's 6700 kilometers long in just three weeks, I dedicated 2 intensive months to my planning and organization. I studied few different travel guides and went ahead and booked train tickets, national flights and all accommodation. At the end of March, I was ready with my preparations and waited for the D-day on which my journey to exotic land full of contrasts would begin.

  • My journey lasted 20 days and I covered 6700 kilometers.

I started my journey in Delhi and visited sights Qutub minar, Humayun tomb, Hazrat Nizar, Red fort and Jama masjid. The next day I took a train to Jaipur, walked through the Pink city and continued to Amber Fort. I took a different train then to Agra and visited Taj Mahal, Agra fort and 'baby Taj'. Night train took me to Varanasi and after that I continued on a plane and night train to famous tea locality in Darjeeling near the border of Nepal and Butan, where I stayed with the locals. After that I went back on a night train to Kolkata and hopped on a plane to get me to Palolem beach. I finished my journey in Mumbai where I walked through the colonial part of the city and spent one morning in Dharavi slum where the Slumdog millionaire was filmed.

And because I liked my Indian trip, a few years later I returned to India again and traveled to Kerala in the south of the country ... And If I was to add both of my journeys together, I could say that I spent over 5 weeks in India and travelled over 9 200 kilometers.
